Location and climate
Sukosan is an attractive small town in central Dalmatia, situated in a bay 11 km southeast of Zadar, between the Adriatic highway and sea. The biggest marina on the Croatian Adriatic is situated nearby - marina Dalmacija.
The average temperature during July is 25 °C, and in January 6,5 °C. Due to the climate, the Mediterranean vegetation dominates in this area.
History and sights
Important historical sights in Sukošan are:
• Parish church of St. Cassian, probably built in the 11th century, gained
its present look in the 17th century;
• Little church from the 17th century built on the cemetery;
• Ruins of the summer residence of the archbishops of Zadar from the
15th century can be seen on an islet in the bay;
• Ruins of the medieval fortress built by the knights/dukes of Bribir;
• Medieval chapel, situated approximately 3,5 km northeast of Sukosan.

Sukosan is an ideal destination for everyone searching for a vacation in the nature, combined with sport activities.
The long coast has numerous bays, pebble beaches and clean sea,
perfect for family holidays. Sukosan has many traditional narrow streets
and promenades. Many vacation houses and comfortable camps
make Sukosan a popular tourist destination. It is a region
full of vineyards, olive-groves, rich vegetation and friendly hosts.
It is also well known as a nautical centre - regardless in which direction
you head toward from the marina Dalmacija, you’ll come across one of the
national parks (Kornati, Krka, Paklenica, Plitvice).
How to arrive?
By plane
The Zadar airport is only 11 km far away from Sukosan, and there are
regular flights from Zagreb on a daily basis.
By car or bus
You can reach Sukosan by car if traveling via Trieste, Rijeka, and then use
the Adriatic highway toward Zadar, if you prefer to travel along the coast.
Or you can use the highway when you reach Rijeka or the junction Zuta
Lokva near the town Senj, about 60 km south of Rijeka, and continue
driving toward Zadar.
If you are arriving from the north, the highway Zagreb - Split
is the fastest way. Or you can use the alternative, i.e. the old route Zagreb
- Karlovac - Plitvice - Gracac - Zadar.
There are bus services from every bigger Western European cities to Zadar.
Public bus service connects Zadar and Sukošan on a daily basis, and you
can also use the taxi.
By ship
If traveling by ship, you can use one of the regular ferry lines from Rijeka
toward Zadar or international ferry lines from Ancona toward Zadar. The
trip from Ancona to Zadar lasts 7 hours, however, there are also fast hydrofoil
boats that will take you to Zadar in 3 hours.
